Terms, Conditions, and Content Policies

TL;DR: This site helps share study materials, and you can upload content for that purpose. Content which is fake, offensive, harming, illegal, or otherwise contradicts this site's purpose and rules will likely result in your account being suspended or reported to school. Do not use this site as a social media replacement. Content is allowed to be silly and fun as long as it remains on topic.

A Relatively Brief Summary

This site is student-made. Its views, policies, and opinions do not neccessarily reflect those of its authors or of the CPS school.

This site aims to help share study materials. To accomplish this, users may upload certain content, such as new questions and groups. To prevent endless spam, a reputation system is implemented which only gives users elevated permissions once others have verified that the user is helpful and conducive to the site's positive environment and purpose.

If a user uploads content which is fake, offensive, harming, illegal, or otherwise in violation of policies set forth in the CPS Student Handbook or those set on this site, that content will be taken down and its uploader will face consequences. These consequences include (but are not limited to) conversing with site moderators, having their account temporarily or permanently suspended, and being reported to faculty at the school.

This is not a social media website. Comments on questions are intended to help students and are not places to discuss non-question-related activities.

Terms and Conditions

By using this site, you agree that the name you share and any content you upload will be made public. Importantly, content uploaded to this site can never be deleted. Even questions you mark as unlisted are still visible to moderators and anybody with a link to the question will be able to access it.

If something has a copyright law preventing you from uploading it, a link will suffice. If a link is impossible, you should reconsider whether you need the copyrighted material as part of your upload.

While this site tries to moderate uploaded content to its best effort, it is ultimately up to human beings with limited time. As such, it is important to note that Section 230 of Title 47 of the United States Code protects this site from being responsible for the content uploaded to it in the event that we are unable to remove it.

Content Validity

This site distinguishes between five levels of content validity: On Topic, Technical, Off Topic, Harmful, and Illegal. While these categories have relatively intuitive names, more precise descriptions of them are provided below.

On Topic content is any content which is conducive to the environment this site aims to provide. On Topic content is placed in the appropriate sections, is understandable within those contexts, and is not harmful to the student and faculty body. What is counted as On Topic content can vary based on context.

A question about derivatives of trigonometric functions is On Topic in the Math 4i group, but is Off Topic in the Asian Worlds group. A comment about noun phrases is On Topic if attached to a question about free-phrasal modifiers in the English I group.

Non-examples of On Topic content include: anything too technical to be intelligible to most people in the appropriate group, something posted in the incorrect group, something irrelevant to school, and anything harmful or illegal.

Technical content is any content which would normally be On Topic, but which is too complicated in its respective environment to be helpful. This does not mean content needs to be understandable to all people; someone in the Math 2 class will likely not understand many of the questions in the Math 4 group. But a question in the Asian Worlds group should not require overly specific knowledge of obscure topics, and a question in the English group should not ask about a free-phrasal modifer that has not been learned in class.

Off Topic content is any content which is off topic in its environment or which is irrelevant to this site's purpose. A Physics question posted in a Spanish group is Off Topic. A screenshot of a video game is almost guaranteed to be Off Topic. A question asking the comments section to play Tic-Tac-Toe is likely Off Topic.

Harmful content is any content which is harmful to the student body or to the ideals of this site. This includes (but is not limited to) swearing, anything discriminatory or sexual, or anything which promotes values that go against the school's. Certain categories of fake information are also classified as Harmful, most notably impersonation.

Illegal content is any content which is illegal according to city, state, or federal law. Specific examples of illegal content can be found in the city, state, and federal regulations.

Reporting Policies

While the exact policies on what to do with content deemed invalid in any way vary based on the content and the specific instance, here are some general rules on this site's policies.

Anything found Technical or Off Topic will likely be unlisted or removed. The author will be privately contacted according to the policies specified later in this document.

If something Harmful or Illegal is found, the content will be taken down as soon as possible. The author of the content in question will be contacted and placed into a conversation with the site's moderators and possibly administrators at the school.

Contact Methods

In the event that a user needs to be contacted, they will be sent an email by the site or by a moderator of the site. Names and email addresses are always public, as they help guarantee authenticity of a user, and users of the site can always directly contact others in the need of an emergency.

Legality of This Policy

No author of this document is a lawyer, and some of the terminology used here may be incorrect. This policy is not neccessarily legally binding, but it represents a very effective way of communicating the site's values clearly and publicly. But note that it is always up to the sole discretion of the site's owners and moderators to implement whatever policies may be best, and that the site's owners and moderators are allowed to deviate from this policy when neccessary.
